EDUCATIONAL MISSION

Mr. J. Caughley, formerly Director ot kdueation, is travelling to Niuo Island and thonco to Samoa by the Hinemoa leaving Auckland on Monday. He is to act for the Education Department on behalf of tho Island Administrations ivith the object of inspecting and supor- . vising native education in those islands. Arter spending about three weeks in bamoa lio will proceed to the' Fiji Islands, the Government of which has arranged ,with the New Zouland Education Doparmtont •to report regularly on tho schools for white children and to soloct and classify treachors for them. Mr.- Caughley will bo about a month in Fiji, and during that time will assist the authorities in any way possible in regard to usitivc education, both for Fijians mid Indiana—a work which needs a great deal of altontion and which was tho subject of a Royal Commission last year. Mr. Caugbley expects to return to Wellington early in October.
