WORK AT MIRAMAR
(To the Editor.)
Sir, —I wonder if the information afoot is in any way correct, regarding the work now proceeding in connection with concreting of the open watercourse in Park road, Miratnar. Work has commenced adjacent to the tramway waiting shelter in Miramar avenue, and rumour has it that only a small portion of the course is to be dealt with at present. Now, Sir, if this be true may I suggest that the time is ripe for consideration of the continuance of this valuable work. Firstly, and perhaps very important is the unemployed questions here is work of a valuable nature, men are out of employment, and money is being subscribed (to assist) by the general public. Secondly, Park road has presented problems to the council in that the avenue of trees tends to make-, traffic dangerous to the public, and by covering the watercourse a path for pedestrians could be formed on the eastern side of the trees, and so eliminate the danger of accident amongst the evergrowing population in the vicinity, and practically leave the present road to vehicular traffic. Thirdly, and perhaps not the least important, with the approach of summer the danger to public health of the overflow from the ejector in the sewerage system would be considerably mitigated if the course were covered at once instead of years hence. It appears obvious that the Park road proposition presents the qualifications of a very urgent case, and it behoves the city authorities to seize the opportunity instead of putting it off for a final tidying up in the dim distance.—l am, etc.,
