MAORI BONES UNEARTHED

(By Telegraph.) (Special to "The Evening Post.") CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. A resident of the Opawa district, My. B. Roes, received a mild shock last night. He was digging in his garden and had just commenced operations on a plot which had been cleared of flax and trees when ho unearthed a skull. Tho site is on the banks of tho Heathcotc River, in part of wnat was formerly Johnston's Gardens. With tho assistance of an electric light ho made excavations. and foand bones, which are obviously the remains of a Maori. The skull, except for a distinct scar at the back of the head and a slight cut on tho top, was in good order, with a bountiful sot of upper teeth. The bottom row was missing, but a stray tooth was found later. A ■ small piece of greenstone, which had apparently been worn round the neck, was also found.
