SLOW BIDDING

THE AUSTRALIAN MERINO

OUTLOOK

(United Press Association.-^-Copyright.) (Beceived sth July, 1.30 p.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. The opening day of the ftnnual Bind ' sheep sales, which was devoted to ' merino rams, reflected the prevailing nervousness regarding the pastoral outlook. Though the quality offering waa quite up to the average, bidding waa slacker and the prices paid were lowei; than at the last year's opening sale. The top prices were 700 guineas for a Wanganella stud ram, and 625 guineas for a Uardek ram. The demand for choice animals from other noted studs was fairly good, the prices ranging from 150 to 550 guineas.

[Under date 10th June.an Australian report on seasonal conditions states :-i- ---" Pastoral areas in West SUtes still report the need of good rains. In this connection stock is Buffering and the lambing will be considerably below normal. One authority estimates a shrinkage in wool production for the coming season of some hundreds of thousands of bales, but production ia not likely to drop below, 2,000,000 bales, which would still leave the Commonwealth in the position of producer of 25 per cent, of the world's wool.]
