CABLE TELEPHONE
INTER-ISLAND SERVICE
(By Telegraph.)
(Special to "The Evening Post.")
AUCKLAND, This Day. It is probable that next Monday it will be possible for Auckland telepliono users to converse with others in Christchureh. The Secretary of the Post and Telegraph Department (Mr. M'Namara) stated yesterday that the amplifiers for use in conjunction with the new Cook Strait telephone cable had been installed, and a full series of tests was being, carried out. The cable had been in use for some time for conversations between Wellington and Blenheim and Nelson, and the circuit connecting with Christhurch and intermediate points had been entirely reconstructed. He did not expect the through charge would be very greatly above the Auckland-Wellington rate, although a special cable fee would be imposed. The exact charges had yet to be determined.
