BLUNTS THOUSAND
THE LATEST AVERAGES
(By "Not Out.")
By his great batting performance in the match with Northumberland, B. C. Blunt gains the distinction of being the first member of the New Zealand cricket team to compile 1000 runs on the tour. Blunt has batted on twenty occasions, and having been once not out, his average for all matches (including that now in progress) is 52.73. T. C. Lowry has the next" best aggregate. It is worthy of note, however, that in first-class matches Lowry has the highest aggregate, with Blunt in fourth place. The averages for all matches preceding that against Northumberland show Lowry still at the head of the batting, with Dempster in close attendance. Page still has the best bowling average, though he has taken only seven wickets. Of the others Merritt is in pride of place, slightly ahead of Blunt. M. Henderson has made a big move forward, while M'Girr has maintained a place of prominence. Tor purposes of comparison a table has been compiled for first-class matches, and this has some very interesting features. Page is credited with a fine double, being at the head of both departments. Lowry is in second place, Dempster being down to seventh on this table. M'Girr is well up, but Mills is very low on the list, as also is James. So far as the bowling is concerned, Blunt just heads off Merritt, with Henderson next, followed by M'Girr. The averages for all matches are as follow :—
