UNLICENSED BUS

PALMERSTON N., This Day. The first prosecution of its kind as far as Piilmcrston North is concerned was heard in the Magistrate's Court yesterday, when F. l'nrr, motor omnibus proprietor) was charged under the Motor Omnibus Act with using <m unlicensed vehicle as in omnibus.
The evidence showed that l''arr had a license for one bus, but during lush times van a second vehicle, designed to carry seven passengers, as an extra service. It was pointed out that so long as defendant did uot carry more than seven passengers in this second car he was not infringing the Act, but the inspector alleged that when he stopped defendant there were eight passengers and two children on board.
The Magistrate (Mr. J. L. Stout, S M ) inspected the vehicle, and found it could carry more than seven persons, and consequently should have been registered. As the case had been brought ' more with the idea of obtaining a ruliiv the nominal penalty of £1 and costs (10s) «•« imposed.
