DAMAGE BY FIRE

CHRISTCHURCH, 20th June. An outbreak of lire occurred to-night in Carey's Buildings; owned l)y Mr. A. F. Carey, a two-storied concrete structure in Colombo street. The main tenants were Dunstan and Dyer, men's outfitters, but there are several other tenants in the building. The fire, which broke through the roof, was quickly subdued, but some damage was done. Doro and Willis, architects, had plans and other papers damaged by water; Dr. Cr'awshaw had books, instruments, and fittings damaged by water; the Black Cat Restaurant, on the ground floor, occupied by K. Curry, was damaged by water. The stock of Dunstan and Dyer was not damaged. Although the outbreak threatened danger of serious loss, the actual loss was small, about £150.
