NELSON, 20th June. The Rugby football matches on Saturday resulted as follow:—Senior: Pirate Xi, v. Old Boys 9; Nelson 9, v. Rival 5. Junior: College 32, v. V.M.C.A. 0; Wakatu 13, v. Rival'B; Old Boys 8, v. Nelson 4.

■ In the ladies' hockey matches Nelson drew with Golden Bay at Takaka, 1 goal each. The Buller and Nelson men's representatives met at Westport, Buller winning 2-0 in the seniors, and 6-5 in the juniors. . ■

The Nelson Gun Club held competitions ou Saturday; with following results: 'Ashot sweepstake: G. Elliott I, Clark 2, E. Hargreaves 3. Spencer won the A grade, aud Cowman (after shooting off witii Dr. Barr) the B grade. The Tahunanui Santls Association has decided to submit to the Nelson City Council several recommendations with a view to improving the beach and surroundings by providing facilities for bathing, and other recreations.

The Nelson Ladies' Golf Club held its weekly competition last Friday. The L.G.U. Medal and the Encounter Shield were advanced another stage, Mrs. Waters 74, iv the senior division, and Miss G. Clark 73, in the junior division, handing in the best cards.

Members of the Hop-growers' Association from Nelson, Riwaka, and Motueka visited Takaka and discussed with growers in that district several matters pertaining to the industry. The outlook for the coming season is said to be promising. The sum of £51.000 is being paid to growers at the end of this month, as first payment on last season's crop.
