LADIES' HOCKEY
TOURNAMENT AT PALMERSTON
A decision to allot the 1927 championship tournament to the Manawatu Association was reached at a special general meeting of tho Council of the New Zealand Ladies' Hockey Associar tion last night, Mr. H. D. Bennet presiding over a record attendance of delegates. The tournament will be played at Palmerston North, and will commence on 31st August. Entries win cldse with the New Zealand secretary on 10th August. Applications for thai tournament were received from Auckland, Poverty Bay, Manawatu, Buahino (Dannevirke), and South Canterbury* It is expected that owing to Palmerston's central position there will be heavy entries.
The new English rule providing that the maximum weight of stacks ihall be 230z, instead of 28oz as at present, was discussed, and it was decided to adopt the lighter stick. The council intends to ask tho English authorities to consider, a suggestion that-the sticb shall be reduced to 260z only.' ■ ■
