Police cases •in the Magistrate's Court to-day were dealt with by Mr W G. Eiddell, S.M.
"It is difficult to know what to do with this defendant," said the Magistrate of Delia Hazel Gorrie, a marned woman, aged 29, who admitted a breach of the terms of her probationary license. "Her list certainly shows tha"t she is given to taking too much liquor." Gori-ie was convicted and aischarged, a prohibition order being issued against her for the next twelve months. "I am giving you another chance—not that I think it will do much good," said Mr. Eiddell. "If you come up again you will hare to be sent to the island, where, I see, you have already served a term.''
A remand to appear next Wednesday was granted in the case of William Shaw, a carpenter, aged 31, who in charged with having indeeoativ assaulted a female. On the application of Mr. A. B. Sievwright, bail was allowed" and was fixed at £100 and one surety of a similar amount.
On a charge of having obtained £3 7s 6d from Walter Allridge Conncll by means of false pretences, Herbert Arthur Richards, aged 24, was remanded to appear at Marton on Friday. One first offender for drunkenness, who spent the night in the cells, was convietod and discharged. A married woman, aged 35, appealed for sentence on two charges of shoplifting. She took cloth valued at £1 Is lOd from James Smith, Ltd. The Magistrate admitted her to one year's probation on the first charge arid imposed a line of £3, in default fourteen days' imprisonment, on the second. It, was stated that the accused had never previously been before the Court.
