CARR'S MISFORTUNE
COMPULSORY LANDING
(British Official Wireless.) BUGBY, 19 th June. The second British attempt to make' a non-stop flight to India has unfortunately failed. Owing to a leak in the oiling system of their machine, -Flight-Lieutenants Carr and Mackworth, who left Cranwell aerodrome at forty-one minutes past noon yesterday, had to come down at Martlesham aerodrome in Suffolk after being m the air an hour and a half. Candecided to land, as the trouble could j not be dealt. with while tho machine was in flight. The landing was difficult m view of. tho immense weight of fuel and stores on the aeroplane, but I the engine did not falter and the descent was perfectly accomplished. An expert will now examine the machine to ascertain the cause of the trouble and report to the Air Ministry. Meanwhile Carr will await the Air Ministry's instructions. (Eeceived 20th June, noon.) . Meanwhile, the monsoon has occurred and is advancing towards the region which the flight would cover, tor which reason, postponement becomes necessary.
