EMPRESS THEATRE.

■ An innovation is introduced at the Empress Theatre this week, and it is educative as well as amusing. It is a picture demonstrative of New Zealand's industries, and a surprisingly large number of Dominion processes are shown." The film, which is entitled "New Zealand at Work and at :Play," also serves to introduce the N.Z. Our Gang Kiddies, in comedy relief. It is an unusual release, and takes the onlooker for a trip to Auckland Zoo, to the northern gumfields, to a summer camp, to jam factories, mattress works, toffee factories, to the N.Z. Navy, to furniture and bootmaking buildings. There ate some exquisite scenic effects, and the acting of the kiddies is especially good. The compilation of the picture has been in expert hands, and the picture is followed with interest*from to end. It is worth a special visit to the Empress Theatre., Supporting is a decidedly attractive dramatic picture, "Ranger of the Big Pines." Kenneth Harlan is starred, along with Helen Costello, who is in the role of Virginia Weatherford. The majesty of the Rocky Mountains of Wyoming is equalled only by. the majesty.- of. the theme, which is that of a proud man's capitulation to the charms of the daughter of worthless.paints. Another: New Zealand picture is thS showing the Auckland entrants for the Miss 1927 contest in various poses. The whole programme is rounded, .oft by orchestral selections by Miss Ediwards's Orchestra. .-•■■' ■
