Nominations for the Wellington Steeplechase Meeting are due with Mr. J. M. Griffiths on Monday, at 9 p.m. •Next week the Hawkes Bay Hunt will hold its meeting on Wednesday on the Hastings racecourse, and the Hawkes Bay Jockey Club's Meeting will be held on Friday and Saturday. There, is then a welcome respite from racing in this Island until the Wellington Meeting next month.

Aniongstthe remits to the New Zealand Racing Conference was one sponsored by the Canterbury Jockey Club/ that clubs with classic races should not be permitted to race.on the same dates except on the occasion'of a national holiday. This was recognised as an effort to compel the Auckland Racing Club to alter its spring dates so that they would not. clash with the New Zealand Cup Meeting. It is pleasing to note that better counsels have prevailed and the remit has been withdrawn. Discussing this matter with an experienced racing official recently, the latter deprecated the tactics of the C.J.C. in attempt* ing to force the issue with the Auckland body. He suggested that if representatives of the C.J.C. visited Auckland and discussed the matter with the executive of the Auckland Racing Club, no doubt an amicable arrangement could, be made. It will be agreed that a quiet discussion between the parties concerned is more likely to bring about nappy results than any attempt at force. At present.'the .C.J.C. has everything to gain and nothing to lose by obtaining the good?will of the all-powerful and wealthy Auckland Racing Club. Gay Queen, who did not commence too well in her schooling as a jumper, gave a better showing at Riccarton on 'Wednesday over the schooling hurdles. 'Viewpoint could not go with Tier, and another novice in All Gold lost her rider at the second, fence. '■."...'■ '.

Footfall is a regular worker on the tracks, Where he is striding along in fine style, as a start on his preparation for spring racing (Writes "Argus"). From being a mean-looking customer, early in his career, he has now thickened out into a very attractive geldifl£. He showed Wonderful improvement this season, and it will' be no surprise if he attaias to even higher form during the ; coming season. Paperchase, who resumed wpfk recently, .appears to have been greatly benefited by her spell, which Was' necessitated by an internal trouble. While on the easy list she put on a lot of condition,-and she is in the best of health to start on a preparation. She showed smart sprint form more than once '.his season, and she may do much better, as a ibur-year-old. H. J. Mason's pair, Agrion and Philippic, are pleasing the track-watchers at Pdccarton by the manner in which they are getting through useful pace-work. \ According to report, Income has been retired from the Turf. He has been a good performer and deserves real retirement. . .• ;,: :

The yearling filly by Marchalong—Brown Owl in H. and A. Cutts's stable has been named' Swpopalong. Rock Drill is the name under which the Autumnus—Countermine colt will race.

Archeno has been given a let-up, and will not race again until the spring. The little Archiestown mare has won four races during the season and has therefore earned a rest. She also looks like being an improved mare next year, as her form during the autumn was .quite good. Kerry Dance is reported to be a greatly improved youngster, having gro\vu and thickened out really' well. It would be pleasing to. see' flic Nassau—Glissando two-year-old turn but well, for his owner, Mr. li. B. Harris, has not been favoured with the best of luck for some time past.
