THE AVERACES
(By "Not Out.")
There has been little change in the list of averages as a result of performances in tho last two matches. T. C. LoVry is still at the top of the batting list, having maintained his average of over 50 runs. R. C. Blunt is next, though he has dropped just below the SO mark. Then comes W. E. Merritt, his place of prominence being held by reason of more unbeaten innings. Merritt has been not out on nine occasions. C. S. Dempster did not play in the last two matches. 0. C. Dacre remains wellplaced, but J. E. Mills has lost some ground. , C.. F. W. Allcott, H. M. M'Girr, and E. H. L. Bernau show signs of improving their batting figures. K. 0. James has fallen off, and C. Oliver is still far too low on the list for a batsman.
M. L. Page, with small figures, remains at the top of the bowling list. "W. E. Merritt, with the highest aggregate of wickets, is next, and he has improved his average slightly. H. M. M'Girr and R. C. Blunt are not far behind Merritt, both having given further proof of their good qualities as bowlers in recent matches. C P. W. Allcott, E. H. L. Bernau and M. Henderson may be expected to improve their figures ere long. W. Cunningham has missed three matches on end.
K. C. James has kept up hi» splendid record behind the sticks. Apart from the efforts which have resulted in opposing batsmen being run but, in which James no doubt lias had a hand, he has kept a keen eye to business when batsmen have shown a tendency to advance from the crease to play tho ball, and has- disposed of sixteen such batsmen.
Where batsmen have snicked the leather behind the wicket, James has brought off twenty-one catches. James hag averaged just over two wickets ncr innings, being credited with thirty-seven wickets out of a total of 174. The averages are as follows: Batting. T. C. Lowry .... Y' ■■s? %^&li B. C.
