COMPETITIONS SOCIETY.

A meeting of the executive of the Competitions Society was held last evening, Mr. B. P. Gully presiding over "a full attendance of members. A letter was received from the Society of Musicians, Wellington, offering a gold medal for a piano solo, to mark the Beethoven Centenary.. It was decided to accept the'offer with thanks, also to adopt Messrs. Robert Parker and 73. Douglas,, Tayler's suggestion that the item to be played should be Sonntn in A flat, Op. 110, first movement any edition, and open to competitors of any age. The Railway Department wrote granting excursion fares to all competitors travelling to the competitions. The sub-committee appointed to select judges for the dancing section reported that-they had appointed Madam Edith Baird and Mr. J. C. Pulton, and this action was con-' firmed. The secretary reported that although entries did not. close until early next month quite a number of entries had 1 already been received. Mr. W. J. Mountjoy was appointed to a vacancy on the executive. The question of increasing the membership of the society was left "■ over until next meeting.
