"LADY, BE GOOD."
There was ah excellent demand for seals thin morning when the plans were opened for the eight representations of "Lady, Be flood." which-is to be staged by the "No, No, N.inette" company at the Grand Opera House on Saturday afternoon and evening next and five following nights and on Wednesday afternoon' next. Elsie Prince plays the role of.. Judy"Trevor. Because they owe money, Judy and her brother Dick (Leonard Rich) arc thrown out on the pavement on a very wet day. Xhoy camp on the public thoroughfare. Judy is just trying to convert an ordinary lamp-post into.a private reading lamp for her _'■ personal use when a tramp-like young .man appears on the scene. Jack Robinson (Claude Holland) is his name, but Judy docs not know it. He has come from Mexico, where he had a rich uncle, now deceased. It has been assumed that Jack is also dead, because he left home many years before and disappeared. A shady lawyer (Jimmy Godden) is engaged in claiming the. rich estate of the late Mr. Robinson. A fiery Mexican urges Tiim to hasten the proceedings, for his daughter is reputed to be the widow of the nephew and heir. In order to obtain probate it is neeesiary that the widow '-"should" shall appear in person, but she cannot be produced because she is languishing in gaol. So the shady lawyer tells Judy that if she will consent to pose as Jack Robinson's widow she may be able to prove her title and live happily ever afterwards. All goes well until Jack Robinson discloses his identity. Many of the, incidents are told in brilliant musical numbers, and George Gershwin's melodies are, it is'said, delicious-through-out. An outstanding feature of "Lady, Be Good" are the dances and the beautiful ensembles.
