FALSE STOCK RETURNS

FARMER FOUND GUILTY

(By Toloprraph.—Press, Association.)

GISBORNE, This Day. At the Supreme Court to-day, Thomas Bronsahan, farmer, was found guilty of obtaining £798 from Dalgety and Co. by means of false stock returns. Sentence was deferred tiil the following day.

Brosnahan's son, Aloysius Georgo Brosnahan, pleaded not guilty to making false returns of stock to Dalgety and Co., thereby obtaining £376. After hearing evidence for the Crown, the Judge said the evidence was not more than enough to create suspicion against accused. He may have made returns knowing the figures to be false, but that may equally be explained. He relied on his father for the figures. Under the Judge's direction the jury returned a verdict of not guilty. The prisoner was discharged.
