ABE THEY COMPATIBLE?
FLYING AND MARRIAGE
(Received loth June, 1 p.m.)
LONDON, 14th June.
The drastic choice between flying and marriage is given Italian airmen in a Bill at present before the Italian Parliament, which debars every officer from marrying before thirty ; on the grounds that the affections and obligation! ofthe family have a marked influence on the equanimity of. airmen. .English experts regard the prohibition as absurd.! The Air Ministry-says that such a measure would never be contemplated in. England,, where there is no preference between married and single. "Marriage," said an official, "does not affect' the ability, for example, of Gillman who' is married and spent thitty-six hours in the air on his Indian non-stop flight. 'Mackworth, Cafr's new "comrade, is married." ■ . .
Captain Courtney's wife Baid: "It is a stupid idea. Marriage stabilises ,a; man and makes him more serious."
The majority of pilots on, the civil airways of Europe are married..
