SOCCER REQUEST TO RUGBY
(By Telegraph.)
(Special to "The Evening Post")
CIIRISTCHTTRCH, This Day. Replying to further representationsfrom the Canterbury Football Association, the Management Committee of the Eugby Union decided that it cannot postpone fixtures on-2nd July, the date of the Soccer Test. , In its second letter, discussed last iiight, the associa-tion-thanked the union for having decided to play matches of minor importance on that day, hut as the authorities controlling Rugby League, hockey, and basketball had agreed to postpone their fixtures, it asked the union to reconsider its decision. The association also asked the union to receive a deputation to discuss the matter. An invitation was extended to the members of the union to bo present at the civic reception on Friday;
Mr. A. E. M'Phail said that it was difficult for the union to put off its fixtures, owing to : the fact that the season was fully booked up. , Mr. A. E. Flower said that the organisation of sport in the. city was growing so big that each body would have to run its own fixtures without reference to other bodies.
Mr. C. S. M'Cully: "The racing people will be asking us to put our games off next."
It was decided to reply that as it would be barely possible for the union to get through its competition fixtures in time for.the representative matches, no good purpose would be served by receiving a deputation, as the committee could apt alter its decision.
