June IS, 22—Auckland T.C. , '.The; nominations for the Hawkes Bay Meetings are very satisfactory. The entry for the* Hawkes Bay Steeplechase is particularly good,; including as it does Maungs 1,. Firehlight, ■ Passin' Through, Comical, Bonny Rill, Crown Coin, and San Forte. The hack hurdle races at the Hawkes Bay Meetings'"•'■should provide plenty of interest; for they have an abundance of new-comers to that part of the business. .There are decided possibilities about one. F.J. M'Kay,' private trainer to Mr. W. T. Hazlett, was at Riccarton on Thursday,in, an effort to find suitable accominbdatipn for the fairly large • string hewwHl-'have racing at the Grand National Meeting... Evidently, the. Southern trainer appreciates the find winter galloping ground"provided-.at Riccarton. -.— ) E. Shaw, who had the misfortune to Jjreak a shoulder blade when Blue Hall Jell with him at Wingatui, is making a ■good recovery, and he expects to be able •to ride again before the end of this ynonth. When Shaw was injured Mr. J. .8. Barrett communicated with T. H. Gil--3ett, with a view to securing another, rider for Charlatan at Treritham, but he: has mow countermanded the instructions, and Shaw -will be on the Wiiikie gelding in .the Wellington Steeplechase.

■'- J. Boyd will make a start in a few days \o break in a-yearling -filly by"-Thurahahi ,'from Royal Delight, the dam of Royal iTractor. ■ ,• !,' Nincompoop is reported to look well jjifter-.; his racing at Wingatui, where he Uran a couple' of good races, winding up livith a win on the.' last day. He will be jkept going in useful work, as a trip to Irenthani is-in contemplation next month. \" Money Order is a daily attendant at the JMccarton tracks. In the meantime, he is ibeing confined to ;easy tasks, but he is in Jthe best of health and apparently keen for iWOrk. .• --I : ■ . :■■■■

>j D.: Campbell has Moorland in steady *ork again, i and i the Finland gelding will ibe prepared for spring engagements. I: Cutts Brothers have only two horses in active commission at present—Wild Work and Card Trick. They are getting through .■Useful tasks and they should be in good jprder- for engagements at Trentham- next .Jlhonth. Wild Work has a good turn of apeed, but her mate has very; little form to recommend him.

:';! The Tractor, filly Pink Terrace, and the Kilbroney—Filigree filly El Nido have rejoined J. Kuttledge's stable 'at Wingatui. , 'Pink Terrace, who gave Tractor the distinction of siring his first classic winBer, has thickened out during, her spell, !.writes \<'Sentiriel." \ El'Nido was taken up ■in the-.spring, of the year, but as sue did ! not do well, a lengthy spell became her lot. Filigree was got by Bonifdrm—Finery, byßirkenhead—Bijou, by Medallion —Sapphire: Koyal Fusilier was got by Hotchkiss from Janet, by Castor from Cissy, a sister to Trenton. Birkenhead *<w by.,Orme (sire. o{ .Flying Fox), ami Medallion was got by 'Nordeiifeldt fronr Locket. This brief glance will show that El Nido should be some class on the Turf, and also holds a high prospective value for the stud.

A rising two-year-old by Solferino from the dam of Te Anau Lad and Eyed Ova ■will shortly join J. Ruttledge's stable at Wingatui. The youngster was bred and is owned by Mr. E. C. Govan, and is described as a particularly nice chestnut, showing plenty o£ size and quality. Te Anau Maid was got by Sylvia Park from Sister Francis, by Seaton Delaval—Agatha, by Nelson—Sister Agnes, by Rosierucian, the sire of Pulchra, the ancestress of Jlultjfprm, Cruciform); and other high-class performers.' .■

/Mr. G.. J. Barton, of,Dunedin, has purchasfed the four-year-old Eoyal Head, by Antumnus—Kirriemuir, and the gelding \till go into S. G. Ware's stable at Wingatui. On the first day of the recent Duneilin Meeting, Royal ■Head,, put-in a great rtm over the last furlong in the Janefield Handicap, and on a. soft track;, is: likely to van races. He is by Autiiinnus—Kirricraiiir, so his 'breeding will not"hinder hiih from reaching the highest class. \ West,-. Coast horses Viewpoint and .All Gold are ?sit Riccarton with the idea ofibteing schooled over hurdles. Both were given a round last week, but will need a lot-, of schooling before they become profieftnt hurdlers.

-Kfforts are being made to make a hurtljor of Gay Queen, but though she jumps wSI over her trainer's private track, she give a poor exhibition at Riccarton on xrlday. She showed a disinclination to face a; hurdle the first time she was asked, but scrambled over. Taken back for another try she baulked and was not persevered with.

Recently the "Sydney Sun's" Roekhampton correspondent wrote as follows:— "Ringing-in is not confined to,racecourses. Even the s.mall boys who race goats at the Agricultural Society's weekly sports have worked the oracle' for some time past. There have been whispers that first divisioners were starting in third division races. Last night the stewards took action and.carpeted several boys. After exhaustive inquiries it was ascertained that 'Biastoon,' and 'Brown .Toe/ who were entered in the third division were identical ■with 'Heroic' and 'Limerick/ two first dtvisioners. Two tearful lads made a hurried exit from the" showgrounds, with two hkiry steeds in tow. When the third division had been run there was an uproar. It was discovered that 'Sapially,' the winner, was identical with 'Kenzilla,' a first djvisioner. 'KenzillaV- owner was fined the amount of the prize-money. As betyeen 70 "and 80 goats start in three divisions every niglit, the stewards have«,a difficult task in keeping tab on them." •White lfang appears to have spreadeagled the opposition at R'andwick on-Sat-urday, running out the six furlongs in fast tune, but it is. evident that the track was ini;good order. White Fang has not been particularly lucky in Sydney, tut this effort shows that he has not lost his galloping ability. From recent track reports lift was seen that he had been 'Kalloniiic y&y wjell. •

iftulyarri's victory in the A.J.C. Steeple-, icljase.on Saturday would be received with acclamation, in Tattersall's ring if nowhere else, vAs nearly all tlie Sydney bookmaketsnow do business extensively in doubles, GwJlyarri should have been a great horse fofcthem. His name was not mentioned in an> of. the; discussions prior to the race. ffrentham tracks have now taken on tltfcir winter conditions, and there-is little orjitnothing of.interest doing on the Wellington Club's course. The sand track has been put in order for the use of those tramenr .who attend the. course. pjonmark, who has gone wrong, .will not he< racing' at the Hawkes Bay Meetings. Hokioi, who was schooled over the steeplechase fences in the centre of the course afr-Trentham on Saturday, is to fulfil his Hiwkes Bay engagements. fF. Tilley has Laughing Prince in steady yprk. The FortHl trainer has six; juveniles, including a (phestmit brother to Tamatete and Tukia, the Paper Money—lsabel Eelfling Cashier, nnd the Grandcourfc—All TSlk gelding High Falutin.^ .-.- -
