RIFLE SHOOTING
Members of the Hautere Defence Rifle Club (Otaki) fired twenty shots at 900 yards on Saturday, this being the final shoot to count for . the CLampion Belt. Seven members completed the competition which has extended over the whole season, at ranges 300, 500, 600, 800, and 900 yards. Last year's holder of the Belt, Rifleman G. Hayward, retains the honour for the present season by 11 points, Rifleman E. Taylor being the runner-up after considerably improving his position in the concluding stages of the competition, his two scores of 48 at 800 yards being worthy of special mention. The aggregates for 800 and-900 yards are given below, and these, added to scores already reported, bring the members to the total shown.
Rifleman G. Hayward, 92-82—821; Rifleman E. Taylor, 96-79—810; Rifleman V. Cottle, 83-77—791; Rifleman J. Fielding, 89r73—788; Rifleman T. Taylor, 87-63— 756; Rifleman K. Pullman, ■ 84-75—741-Rifleman C. Cobb, 83-61—682. The season will be closed on Saturday next, when Ladies' Day will be held. Riflemen will fire ten shots at 300 .and 500 yards, and the prizes will go to ladies nominated by the winning riflemen.
