MOTOR-CYCLE TRIAL
A ROUND TRIP
An attempt at a class of motor-cycle reliability trial very popular in England is to be made on Saturday next from Wellington to Wanganui direct and back to Wellington, via Palmerston North and Wairarapa. It is pointed out by a correspondent ("Balloon Tires") that the trial is not intended as a speed 6yent but as a thorough test of the capabilities of riders and machines, giving the experienced rider opportunities to avail of past experience and giving to the amateur, riding under competitive conditions, a. confidence which will serve him well a critical moments. Only two classes are provided, one for solo riders and one for combination machines, and the 294 has to compete on equal terms with the 7-9. The average speed to be maintained is 25 miles per. hour. This means, the correspondent states, that, allowing, for reduction of speed on hills, at crossings, and through towns, bursts of 40 to 50 m.p.h. will be required to maintain the average. It is almost beyond question that a secret check will be made in the vicinity of Paekakariki hill, while an official check is announced for a town further .on. The powerful machine can do the climb in good time, but the smaller one will have to speed up to equalise its slow climbing. Obviously to cater for every class of rider, and not reserve for the powerful. machine first choice of the prizes, classes should be made for engine^ g£ |imi}» ■ capacity,
