Egyptologists arc puzzled over the' discovery near the great step-pyramid of Sakkara, Memphis, of the world's oldest stone-built tomb. It was constructed by King Zoser, of the third dynasty, about 3000 8.C., but it is the third, known tomb of King Zoser. Ho also constructed a vault near Abydos, and another within the step-pyramid itself, in which he is supposed to be buried. Archaeologists are mystified by the discovery of this further tomb, which apparently has been rifled by robbers, and also utilised by subsequent Pharaohs for the decoration of their own tombs. This is shown'by the removal of four sepulchral slabs of quantities of glazed tiles, with the result that the tomb does not offer great spec-' tacular interest. It is stated that the heiroglyphs in the tomb contain important evidence regarding a hitherto little known period, and also provide proofs of the high state of development of heiroglyphie writing at a remote dale, more than a century before Cheoos began building his great pyramid of Giza. . . , -
