TACTFUL SPEECH
SIDKY SAVES SITUATION
(Published in Th« Tim**.)
CAIRO, 2nd June. . • Sidky Pasha saved the Government in a delicate situation when a crowded Chamber prepared a question embarrassingly regarding the Anglo-Egyp-tian situation. Sidky Pasha, at the end of the Parliamentary business, referred to Sir Austen Chamberlain's speech of Ist June, and. pointed out that the Egyptians desired a disciplined army, uninfluenced by politics. He deprecated attempts to disturb relations, as both, nations' energies ought to be directed to establishing a good understanding. He concluded by saying that he did not expect the Government to make a statement, but he hoped that untrue allegations would be refuted. The Premier, Sarwat Pasha, replied that-the dispatch of warships to protect Europeans did not accord with' reality. The negotiating were progressing, and he was hopeful of a satisfactory solution. . - ,
