NATIONAL FLAG
FOR SOUTH AFRICA
OTHER CONSIDERATIONS
REQUIREMENTS AT SEA
"(United" Press Association.—Copyright.) (Published in The Times.) LONDON, 2nd June. Vice-Admiral Dumas, in a letter to "The Times": apropos of the South African flag, says the design not only greatly interests - South Africa, but every Dominion and colony in the Empire: 'furthermore, the fact that the flag will be flown at sea as well as in- 1 South Africa necessitates that all the world shall be able clearly to distinguish it at a distance of two miles'. he suggests that consideration of. the settlement be deferred till the next'meeting of the Dominions at the'lmperial Conference, when everybody, should have a say, "and, I hope, agree."
■ Continuing, Vice-Admiral Dumas ••ys:'"l further make the suggestion because from the seamen's point of view;the Australian, Canadian, and many colonies' flags would not fulfil these requirements. Nobody outside these Countries; could clearly recognise the : almost microscopical designs. Theße great, splendid Dominions and colonies in the course of time will posiess navies and merchantmen, and it .jrould.be the greatest -pity to settle upon flags which represent them individually or in: anywise unworthily.
