whose form behind the scrum ia Auck-land-this year has been, more than favourably coiamented upon.
In tie Limelight.
X-. I. Dv Chateau, a member of last year's Wellington College Old Boys' t«ara, is impressing the critics in Auckland by his play a- half-back. He is plsying for College Eifles, and in the match with Marist he was stated to be the best back on the ground in spite of the fact that two All Blacks, Johnson and Sheen, were in the rearguard. One writer says: "Dv Chateau was versatile and clever on attack; getting the ball away with perfect precision. He knew when it was useless to feed Johnson, who was closely watched." Another critic says: "Rifles seem to have found a scrum half who, on last week's performance, must be ranked with the best in Auckland. Dv Chateau is thoroughly game on defence, ana feeds Ma. backs crisply."
Club Championship.
The leading positions in the club championship competition are at present occupied by the following:—Petone 59 points, Oriental 50, Wellington 44, Hutt 31, Eastbourne 30, and Athletic 28. .
Junior Championship,
Sixteen teams are taking part in the junior championship competition, aud '.vith four series of matches played there are three teams unbeaten—Petone, Wellington and Hutt. The form of these three and ottar teams indicates that the standard of junior football in Wellington is being well maintained;, in fact, there are to be seen in action quite a number of players who would do well in the senior grades/ Wellington . and Petone are ■putting up fine performances, but they are not likely to have matters all their own way. Hutt, Eastbourne, Oriental and Old -Boys' are all showing form that shonld keep them in the firing line, and there is ths material in other teams to provide upsefe. The championship table is as follows :—

Third Grade,
The popularity of the third glade competition is again evidenced this season by a very large entry of teams. With twenty-four teams taking part it is not likely that the first round will be played in full, but as in previous ■ seasons the drawing of games will be done in a manner that should give the best satisfaction possible to the participants. Up to the present eight of the teams are unbeaten, but five of these have played drawn games. Pull points in games played have been registered by Kiawarra. Eastbourne and St. Patrick's College A. Kiawarrti, with four games, are at the top of the ladder, and with Onslow A and Petone they have been heavy scorers. Eastbourne are a game behind Kiawarra, while St. Patrick's College have played only ono gamo to date. This competition promises to be very interesting.

Intermediate Grade,
This season's intermediate" grade competition has attracted eighteen teams, eight of which are from fcur clubs. The stronger teams promise to have a very keen struggle for final honours, and in many of th« contests, taking a line through those already played, the play should furnish a, • good example of tho type of Rugby which popularises -the game. There are some really g<.od teams in this grade. Oriontal A aro at present in the lead with four win's in four matches. Petone, and Kiawarra: B are also unbeaten, each having played three games. Several more of tho teams are stair to be seriously reckoned with although they have had a defeat or two in the oariy games. Petone so far have put up a fine scoring record. The championship table is as follows :—
Fourth Grade,
_ A feature of tho fourth grade competition so far as it has progressed is the high scoring registered by several of the teams.- Petone A in four matches have piled up 187 points, Athletic 134, Hutt 115 and Oriental 108. The only score registered against Petone A is a converted try, by Wellington A in the match played last Saturday. Thero are twenty-one teams in the competition, and after last Saturday's games four teams remained unbeaten—Petone A, Oriental, Hutt and Old Boys A. Despite the big scoring performances of the teams mentioned, there is_ every likelihood of vary keen competition for championship honours. The table is as follows:—
From the form displayed the teams seen in action throughout Taranaki last Saturday appear to be stronger -thfin last year,.says an exchange. There is no dearth of good material for the forwards and practically all of last year '3 backs are available.
