CABLE DEDUCTIONS
PRESS NO SHARE IN BENEFIT

MELBOURNE, This Day. In the annual report to the Australian, section of the Empire Press Union, Sir James Fairfax said that although, a substantial reduction had been made in the full ordinary rate for cable messages, the Press had not shared in the, reduction. Further efforts were, however, to be made in this direction. It was hoped that the Press, as the largest users of cable services, would be allowed to share in the concession already granted the commercial community.
The chairman, said that it was hopefi to have the beam wireless service between Australia and Canada in operation shortly.
Mr. Campbell-Jones referred to the urgent necessity for linking up by 'wireless with Australia of all British possessions. ....
A resolution was carried that the Federal Government should be urged to take action in this direction.
