LOADING MUTTON

WATERSIDE ACCIDENT

An accident that occurred in April, 1926, while the steamer Argyllshire was loading mutton at Wellington, had a sequel in the Supreme Court to-day beforo Mr. Justice Reed, when Charles Phillips, a watersider, claimed £330 from the New Zealand Shipping Company.

The plaintiff's claim was that while he was working at tho steamer's side, a chuto collapsed, and he was thrown on to tho wharf and suffered injuries to his back and head. He alleged that the chuto was allowed to bo used by tho shipping company in a negligent manucr. He claimed £30 hospital and medical expenses, and £300 general damages.

Tho company denied negligenco on its part, and said that every reasonable precaution had been taken. Tho company said it had paid Phillips compensation amounting to £47 13s< Mr. O. C. Mazengarb appeared for tho plaintiff, and Mr. H. P. O'Leary for the defendant.
