MIND AND BODY

(Tq the Editor.) Sir,—ln your issue of the 21st instant a report of the recent Washington Medical Convention ' contains a. statement by Dr. Ramsay Hunt, of New York, which concludes with "Mental suggestion is the secret of all cults claiming successful cures." Lest this, might be thought by some of your readers, to re«r to Christian Science, I ask space in your columns for an explanation as to Christian Science healing. In "mental suggestion" the healing power is the so-called human mind, and one belief is displaced'by. another/which m . or may not be' an improvement. In Christian Science, however, the only healing power is recognised to be the divine mind, God, and there is no "secret" about the method. The beliefs of what St. Paul called the "carnal mind" are overcome by that "mind which was also in Christ Jesus" and by it both sin and sickness are healed. A knowledge of God and obedience to the spiritual law working throughout His universe will give m«n freedom from evil even as Christ Jesus taught arid proved. On page 428 of the Christian Science text book ("Science and Health with Key to Urn Scripturas" by Mary Baker Eddy) tho action of the Christ-mind is indicated in the following words: "We nnist realise the ability of mental might to offset human misconccptious and to replace them with the life which is spiritual not material." —I am etc; MADGE BELL,. ChrisUm' Science Committee, ' Aiufitiid, 26th May.
