ANNUAL DINNER
The annual dinner of tho New Zealand. Dental Association was held at the Grand Hotel last evoning. The president (Mr. G. Lawrence Taylor) was in the chair, and guests included the Minister of Labour (the Hon. G. J. Anderson), Sir Donald M'Gavin (acting-president of the British Medical Association), Dr. P. Lynch (hon. secretary of the Wellington division of the 8.M.A.), and Mr. T. A. Hunter (Director of Dental Hygiene). Proposing tho toast of tho Government, the chairman said that no matter how they criticised their administrators, they had to give them credit for tho highest motives, and an intention to do what was in the best interests of the community. The Minister of Labour, in replying, said that the Government had done its vory best, otherwise conditions would bo far worse than they were. There was one point ho wished to stress,
and that was the wisdom of practising more of the good old virtue of thrift. Hard work was the only solution of their difficulties. The Government could not give everything that was dosired, but it could and did give sound, common-sense administration. Tho toast of tho B.M.A. was given by Mr. J. N. Eishworth, who stressed the value of the work being 'carriad out by members of the medical profession. Much 'bencnt could result from tho co-operation of doctors and dentists.
In reply, Sir Donald M'Gavin said that both the dental, and medical professions held a high standard of ethics lncir objects, too, were identical. Other toasts honoured included the executive council of the Dental Association and the president.
