FIRE ON THE TERRACE
A call was received by the Fire Brigade at 12.24 a.m. to-day .to 291, The Terrace, a two-storied boarding-house of eleven rooms, occupied by Mrs Marie Barrett. On arrival, the'brigade found a balcony bedroom ablaze, and this room and its contents were damaged by fire ana water before the outbreak was suppressed. One of the occupants of the house, Gilbert Martin, a married man, aged 44, received severe burns in his left side, arm, body, and face. First-aid was rendered by members of the brigade, and Martin was then removed to the Hospital, where he is reported to be in a fairly serious condition. The owner of the house is Mrs. Margaret O'Connor, of 289, The Terrace, and the insurances are £400 on the contents in the Royal Insurance, and £1200 on the building in the Phoenix Office. Smoking was the supposed cause of the fire.
