After receipt of the information of the raid he (called at the Foreign Office, where Mr. Palairet, Director of the Northern Department,- expressed ignor* a i ce , ra id. Despite continuous efforts,-M. Rozcngoltz was unable to see either Sir Austen Chamberlain or ?■ responsible official before 13 th May. While handing yesterday’s letter to Sir Austen Chamberlain, M. Rosengoltz drew attention to the fact that the police first seized cipher and code documents belonging to M. Khintchuk, the official trade agent. Such action, combined with the raid on the agents 1 office, seemed directed to increasingly strain Anglo-Russian relations. Morethe raid ‘was carried out in such a manner that the interests of the raided institution wero ignored. There was no guarantee that the documents and materials which the police might allege were discovered on. the premises
