MANCHESTER UNITY MEETINGS
The fortnightly meeting o£ Loyal Britannia Lodge, Manchester Unity, 1.0 O F was held recently, Bro. E. Jane, N.G., pre* Biding. Four candidates were proposed, and one new member initiated. Bro. Kraft, P.G., reported on the friendly societies' picnic, and exhibited- the rose bowl won by the Britannia team, which included a member of Loyal Johnsonville Lodge. The billiards committee presented its report. On the motion of Bro. M'Kenzie, the lodge stood in silence out of respect for the members who had made the bupreme sacrifice.
At a meeting of the Loyal Combinatioa Lodge, Bio. A. lE. Cook presided. A new member was initiated. The N.G. accorded a welcome to the judges for the ritual. contest, and also to all other visitors. Bro. Wood, of Loyal Antipodean Lodge, made an appeal to members on behalf of the Widows and Orphans' Society* The meeting was followed by a dance. The fortnightly meeting of Loyal Eke* tahuna Lodge was presided over by Bro^ Sigvertsen, when there was a large number of brethren present. One candidate was initiated. P.P.G.M. Bro. D. P. Loasby> judge of the ritual competition for the Wairarapa lodges, was present, and judged the lodge ritual team. He was accorded lodge honours. Arrangements for the annual ball were left in the hands of the Social Committee. A committee was set up to interview the lodge doctors with regard to the admisison of lady members into the lodge. Two new members wera proposed.
A meting of the Loyal Kilbirnie Lodge was held last week, Bro. J. Welbourne, N.G., presiding. Invitations were received from Johnsonville and Upper Hutt Lodges. Two,- brothers were given four minor degrees, Bro. Jorgenson acting as lecture master. •
The fortnightly meeting o£ the Loyal Newtown Lodge was held last Monday, The N.G., Bro. Johnston, presided over a good attendance.- Bro. Woody Loyal Antipodean Lodge, president of the M.U. .Widows and Orphans' Society, gave soma interesting particulars of the finances and workings of this society. One new. member was initiated.
A meeting of the Manchester Unity Digtrict Management Committee was held last Saturday. The ■ District Grand Master, Bro. Turner, was in the chair, with a full muster of district officers. Director P. Smith introduced the juvenile scheme ori the lines of that operating in. the Auckt land district. Authority was given for the procuring of a new honours board for the district. A request from the Loyal Victoria Diamond Lodge for a loan of £100 was approved, subject to the approval of the Registrar of Friendly Societies. The District Secretary, Bro. Clark, announced that a recent appeal on behalf of a Dunedin brother residing in this district had realised £50, arid an appeal for a Morrinsville brother £300. In the latter case the brother had since died, and the fund was Ijeing administered by ■ a committee of the Morinsville Lodge. The fortnightly meeting of the Rose o! the Valley Lodge was held last week, Bro. Shadlock, K\G., presiding over a fair attendance. It was resolved that a committee be formed to go into the matter of seating accommodation. Invitations to attend an official visit at the Loyal Combination Lodge, Johnsonville, were received. Two new members were proposed. i • The fortnightly meeting of the Loyal Sister Wallis Lodge was held on Tuesdav,when Sister E. Allen, N.G., presided over a_good attendance^ One candidate was initiated. A very interesting report was read by Sister E. M'Farlane, delegate to the Dispensary Board. Musical honours were accorded Sister Gosgrove, of Loyal Dannevirke Lodge, and visiting Brothers Bell," Wiley, and Taylor, of the Loyal Past Grants'. Lodge, judges of the ritual competition.
