EX-LEADER TO RETURN
RißS§e HON. SIR FRANCIS BELL
At the close of the 1925 session of parliament, the Leader of tho Legislative Council (Sir Francis Bell) bade farewell to his colleagues in tho Coun•U, announcing that the time of his Useful service'in Parliament and in the Cabinet—if it had been useful —had ended. He made reference to the fact that he would not be present with them in the follomng session, as ho would be absent in the Mother Country, where ho hoped still to be of service. .
When Sir Francis left last year to lepreeent New Zealand at the sittings ot the Mandates Commission of the League of Nations, tho Hon Sir E. Heaton Bhodes, who had a few months previously retired from the House of Representatives, was appointed to the Legislative Council, and he assumed the seat of Sir Francis Bell as Acting-Leader of that Chamber. At the same timo Sir Francis was reappointed a member of the Council, though he was unable to take his seat.
In reply to a question to-day, the Prime Minister (the Bight Hon. J. G. Coates) stated that it had been decided that Sir Francis Bell should resume his oaties as Leader of tho Council.
