His Excellency the Governor-General (Sir, Charles Fergusson), who has been visiting the South, returned to Wellington this morning. His Exeoliency the Governor-General av'll pay an official visit to Tuihape on Tuesday, 17th May, and will unveil tho local war memorial.
Captain Boylo arrived from the South by tho Maori to-day.
Mr.' W. G. Kiddell, S.M., lias left Wellington on a visit to Dunediu.
Mr. 0. M. Oliver was a passenger by tlio Maori from the South to-day.
Mr. W. E. Leaaiey, of Christchurch, will leave shortly on a holiday visit to Fiji.
My. L. Dwan arrived from Sydney by tho Maunganui this morning.
Mr. 11. Valentine, Mr. D. Rodie, and My. H. .1. Wynne returned from Australia by the Maunganui to-day.
Mr. Beaumont Smith is sailing this evening by the Maluua for Sydney.
Tho Minister of Agriculture (tlio Hon. O. J. .I-Liwlccn) will leave Wellington on Thursday afternoon on a tour of tho Taranaki, Wnikato, and North Auckland districts. He will not lie back in Wellington again until'2Bth April.
' The Minister of Health (the lion. J. A. Young) will-leave Wellington on Thursday for Hamilton. Ho will return to Wellington on Tuesday next.'
The Postinastor-Goner'al (tho Hon. W. Nosworthy) will leavo Wellington to-morrow night for. the South. He will bo away from Wellington over the Easter holidays.
Mr. A. L. Hunt, as delegate for the Wellington Chamber of Commerce, will attend tho Land Settlement Conference to bo held in Auckland to-morrow.
The Lower Hutt Borough Council last night instructed tho Town Clerk to convey to Mr. Laugford, the oldest employee of the council, the sympathy of tho council in the death of his wife, at tho ngo of 80 years.
Mr. If. L. Tapley, M.P., Mayor of Duncdin, will jiot be a candidate for the Mayoralty at the forthcoming municipal elections. He intends to dovoto his timo in future to Parliamentary duties.
Mr. J. F. Studholme, a member of the general committee of tho Canterbury branch of tho Navy League, will loavo on 23rd April on a visit to England, and will bo away for nine, or twelvo months.
Tho Rev. A. W. M'MUlan, Kew Zealand V.M.C.A. representative in Fiji, who has for some timo been at the military camp at Ngarunwahia, intends to return to the Islands this week. He will revisit New Zealand later in the year with his family.
Mr. AY. J. Lankshear, governing director of Lnnkshear's, Ltd., left today by tho Auckland express to connect with tho Niagara for-Vancouver. Mr. Linikshenr intends making a tour of Canada and tho Old Country.
Mr. N. F. Little, 8.A.. LL.B., formerly of Auckland, and now in the legal division of the Public Trust Office in Wellington, has passed the examination for the dogroo of LL.M., with tho equivalent of honours (second-class).
Representative Methodists from nil parts of the city and suburbs met lust week in tho schoolroom of tho Molesworth Street Church to bid farewell and God speed to (he Rev. AY. Greenslnde, who hns been transferred to the East Belt Methodist Church, Christchurch. Mr. Greeuslado, who has occupied tho position of chairman of tho Wellington Methodist District, was presented with a cheque from Wellington friends. Eulogistic: reference to his work, and also to that of Mrs. Greonsladivwus made by several speakers. Mrs. Greenslado also received several tokens of esteem from workers in various brunches of church work.
Mr. Henry Brown, a well-known and highly-respected citizen of Wellington, died at his residence, 39a, Molesworth street, Thormlon, on Saturday hist, after a long and painful illness. The late Mr. Brown, who was a well-known figure on tho Wellington waterfront, was born in England in 1533, and arrived hero at tho ago of 23. Tho deceased, who' was of an assuming and kindly nature, had resided in Wellington for over flfty years, and would speak most interestingly on the early days. Tho funeral took place yesterday nuu-ning, tho Eov. Father Maloney, of tho Basilica, Hill street, conducting tho service at the church and administering the lust rites at- tire graveside. The late Mr. Brown is survived by a' widow.
