There was sin unusual incident at the Borough Council meeting hist evening when a Labour deputation urged the filing of the "New Zealand Worker" in the public library. ■ Mr. Tiuney (tho chairman of the Library Committee) explained that the committee- had ugreod that tho paper would bo placed on the tablo provided that it was supplied free of charge. Somo ti,mo previously it had been resolved not to allow tho journal to bo iiled becauso it was considered seditious.
Mr. Tinney moved that Mr. C. Qough (the Labour secretary and a member of the Reputation) be restrained from addressing tho council on account of the nature of the terms which were, alleged to be couched in tho letter written to tho council sonio time ago. Those had been so bad that the Mayor had refused to bring it before tho council, but tore it up. Mr. Tinney's motion to restrain Mr. Goiigh from addressing tho meeting was supported by the Mayor and tarried unanimously. ■*
An assurance was subsequently given 1 hat the "New Zealand Worker" would be placed on the library table.
