EASTBOURNE BOROUGH COUNCIL
A public meeting was hold in the Masonic Hall, Eastbourne, last night the third and last of a series organised to select eight candidates for the Eastbourno Borough Council.
Mr. J. AY. ileenan, on being elected to the chair, called upon the committee —elected at the previous meeting to interview possible candidates—to submit it's report. Mr. J. Besant, si-caking for the committee, presented a list of nine names of residents consenting to stand.
Each of tlie prospective nominees was given an opportunity to address the meeting, and ballot papers wore then handed aroiind by Messrs. Conine and M'Oill, wlio were appointed scrutineers. The ballot resulted in tUo following being selected as nominees:— Councillors 0. H. Andrews, H. Black E. A! Dawson, Mr. S. I<\ Fisher, Councillor I. ITart, Messrs. 11. AY. Hutcb'eson, A. \V. Press, ami S. G. Shearer.. This is a full ticket, and unless other nominees come forward, the borough will be saved the expense of an election this term.
So far there is no appearance of opposition to Mr. H. M. Jones as Mayor. Noriiiuations for. the Mayoralty close on Thursday next.
After injecting a specially-prepared mixture containing gold and silver, a London doctor reports.a cure of a severe ease of sleeping sickness.
