HARP OF ERIN
IRISH ADDRESS TO DUKE
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.)
DUNEDIN, 17th March,
The Duke of York to-day received the following address from Dunedhi citizens of Irish birth: —
"The day on which Dunedin is honoured by the presence of Your Royal Fghnesses happens to be St. Patrick's Day. This circumstance prompts us to offer on behalf of our fellow-citizens of Irish birth and descent a special expression of welcome that all citizens of Dunedin are to-df r proud and happy to offer to Your Eoyal Highnesses here in Dunedin, as elsewhere in a Dominionof His Majesty.
"Men and women of Irish birth and descent are deeply sensible' of the freedom and happiness they enjoy as the subjects of His Majesty. We assure Your Eoyal Highnesses of our earnest attachment to institutions under which we have the privilege to live, and of our confident hope that the visit of Your Eoyal Highnesses will preserve and strengthen those ties that bind together the widely scattered Commonwealth of Nations of which His Ma-~ jesty is the head.
"We rejoice that a new era has dawned for Ireland since her admission to tha. Commonwealth on a footing equal to our own. The members of the Eoyal Family belong equally to all the races 'hat are united under His Majesty. The titles of Your Royal Highnesses remind us of this, and among those titles is the name of that beautiful spot, Killarney.
"Encouraged by this fact and by a realisation of its meaning, we venture respectfully to offer to Your Royal Highnesses as a memento of the St. Patrick's Day spent among us this Harp of Erin.—(Signed) John Moloney, J. B. Callan, Eugene J. O'Neill, T. J. Hussey, J. A. Brown, C. A. Shield, A. G. Neill, Win. Casey."
The harp presented is a very artistic bit of decorative carved furniture in miniature.
