LABOUR SITUATION
SERIOUS DISTURBANCES
SHANGHAI, 14th March. The labour situation continues very disturbed. Red activities are growing more intensive. The foreman of a Japanese cotton mill was yesterday shot dead. Posters have been placed in the mills urging the workers to rise immediately and seize tho administrative power, and lauding the assassination of loyal workers.
It is reported from Hankow r'uat the late employees of a British cigarette company, which closed its factory on 9th March owing to the unreasonable demands of the union leaders, took possession of one of the factories and started tho engines. When the whistle blew for work only the mechanics responded. Later a meeting of workers appointed twenty-four of their number as directors to make plans to raise funds and run the factories.
