CHEISTCHUECH, This Day,

At the Magistrate's Court Eiehard Alexander Sneigrove, aged 52 years, ■was charged with being intoxicated while in charge of a motor-car in Papanui road.

Sub-Inspector Mathow said . that at 10.15 p.m. on Saturday a constable saw Sneigrove driving a car in Victoria street without lights. On watching tlie car the constable saw that it was pursuing a zig-zag course, so he took another car and chased Snoigrove, catching him in Papanui road. The accused Was taken to the police station after some trouble,, and , was pronounced cjrunk by a doctor.

ITor the accused, Tracy said that Sneigroye was a reputable man occupying a good position in the Community at Papanui, "On Saturday he had been working on. a building with another man. At 5.30 he took the other man home to Now Brighton and came into town. He had one drink, and then he did some odd jobs of business about the city and returned to his'office, and <lid so"me work during the evening. Ho had some biscuits and two strong nips from some whisky that he had there. I produce some sheets of typing done by Sneigrove during the evening. Your' "Worship will see that they aro coherent, and Sneigrovo also did some calculations Which you see there. As he was driving home he became drowsy. That was evidently the effect that the whisky had on him. The police said that they had some trouble in arresting him. One of them grabbed him by the shoulder, which had been put out some time, before, curiously enough while Sneigrove was actively assisting the police."

Sneigrove's license was cancelled, and he was prohibited .f.rom. obtaining another until tho end of June. He was gJso fined £10 without costs.
