FRENCH SUPER-CENTENARIANS
. The Department of the Yonne, in France, js pluming itself upon three noteworthy cases of longevity, states the "New York Times.' (One is an honorary notary, one .is a woman of letters, and one v a woman farmer, All three are well past the age of 100 years; The first-mentioned, M. Hippolyte Gillett, was 'born in September, 1825, and was forty years notary at Maflly-le-Chateau. s The second, Mme. Vagner, formerly lived at .Epernay, but was driven thence by the German invasion, her housev being destroyed by a German shell. She then removed to Auxerre and made- her home with her son. She has for yean been widely known as a writer of juvenile fiction. The third, Mme. "Verdin-Grizard, born sth September, 1825, at Lindry, has never been away from her native villajft. Still lively and cheerful, she hopes to add severalmore years to her span of life. These, it may be added, are all veritable cases of longevity, and'not at all akin to those boasted of by the three Frenchmen who were once comparing family notes. The man from Paris said that an uncle of his had just died'at the age of 105; the man from Toulouse capped ,this with a report of his deceased uncle who had attained his 120 th year; and the man from Marseilles unconcernedly remarked that no member of his family had ever yet died at all.
