A DANGER SPOT
NEAR, KELBURN VIADUCT
Attention was drawn at the monthly meeting of tho Northland Progressive Association last night to the extreme danger existing on the main xoad between the Kelburn viaduct and Tho Rigi. The president (Mr. S. E. Lambert) stated that he had taken particular note of tho conditions lately_, and there was no. doubt that a very serious condition of ail!air3 existed. Some improvement had boen made on the southern eido by cutting back the high bank, but the northern side was even dangerous by reason, of the fact that it "was used extensively by pedestrians, and particularly by school children, proceeding from Kelburn to the western areas, and vice versa. In thirf locality there is a double lino of tram track, and the distance between tho tram lino and the bank is only 10 or 12ft. In addition to the trams, and two bus services, thero is veiy heavy vehicular traffic of all kinds along the road, which forms the junction of four streets.
Pedestrians have no option but to proceed along the narrow strip between the tram lino and the bank, until they roach the footpath on Northland road. It Was pointed out that the danger was increased by the practice of parking ears against tho bank, thus obstructing tho view and further restricting tin; space available for traffic.
It was decided to write to tho City Council requesting that steps bo taken as early as possible to pi'ovido something in the nature of a footpath, however narrow, to enable pedestrians to trayorse tho area in safety,
