ENTERTAINING THE SAILORS
THE CITY'S WELCOME
To provide adequate and fitting entertainment for the officers and men of the Renown has boen tho work of a committee which has now finalised its arrangements.
On Saturday a Soccer match at Athletic Park takes place at 3.30 p.m. between teams representing the visiting warship and Wellington. In the evening 40 officers from the Renown, also Commander Swabuv, and officers from the Diomede, will be guests of the Savage Club. For the sailors, discing in the Town Hall from 7 to 11 p.m. has been arranged. Tho Concert Chamber Of the Town Hall will be open daiiy as a mnn's club, for reading and writing; refreshments will also bo provided. On Monday there will be a shooting match between the warships and Returned Soldiers, to be followed by a smoke concert. Dancing in the Town Hall will be in full swing on Monday and Tuesday from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. A golf match will take place at Heretaunga on Tuesday. To the military pageant all officers and men will be admitted free if in uniform. An information bureau on the Pipitea Wharf will bo under the guidance of the V.M.C.A., and for men who de-. side to sleep ashore beds have been provided in the Hope Gibbons building, to-
gether with a buffet run by the V.M.C.A.
Motor drives are also being arranged, and free tram ridas will be allowed to all in uniform. Private invitations to entertain the men will be extended when the vessels arrive.
