REGULATION OF TRAFFIC

The finishing touches are now being given to the preparations for tho reception of the Duke and Duchess of .York in Wellington. Their Koyal Highnesses arrive from the Wairarapa at Lambton Station at 5.24 p.m., and there is sure to be an immense crowd of people in the streets of the city to welcome them as they motor to Government House. The weather may

make or mar such an auspicons occasion, and it only remains for the unfavourable predictions of the meteorologist to bo disappointed to ensure completo success of the programme for the four days of the local visit.

As the hour of arrival in Wellington is so late, the principal official functions of welcome have beon deferred until Monday and Tuesday of next week. When the Duke and Duchess step off the Royal train, a Eoyal salute of twenty-one guns, at intervals of ten seconds, will be fired from Point Jerningham, and the Tramways Band will play the National Anthem. The Boyal ■visitors will bo received on the platform by the Mayor and Mayoress, the Town Clerk, and members of the City Council. This first official welcome will be very brief, lasting eight or ten minutes, and the party will then immediately motor through the main streets to Government House, where they will reside while they are in Wellington. Tho procession will consist only of cars conveying Their Eoyal Highnesses and suite. The route to be followed will be via Feathcrston street, Bunny street, Lambton quay, Willis street, Manners street, Courtenay place, and Kent terrace. At suitable spots along the line of the procession various city bands will bo stationed to provide music en route.

CONTSOL OF STREETS.

In view of tho great tralric jam which occurred at the waterfront on the day of the' arrival at Auckland, steps are being taken to regulate the traffic to-morrow in such a manner that such blocks will be avoided, and that everybody may have a reasonable chance, to see tho visitors as they pass through tho city. Citizens are reminded of the appeal of the Mayor to facilitate the work of the police and the traffic inspectors, and of the advice to spread out along the lino of route instead of concentrating' on the point of arrival and the precincts of tho railway station and Government Buildings. Certain portions of tho streets will be roped off. '■

The following streets will bo closed for vehicular traffic to-morrow afternoon at 4.3o:—North end of Lambton quay; Featherston street, north of Bunny street} east end of Mulgravo street; Thorndon quay south of Davis street. Tram traffic will stop at 5 p.m. on LamMon quay botwcen Molcsworth street and Lambton Station; on-Fca-thorston street between Bunny street and liambton quay; on Thorndon quay between Davis street and Lambton Station. Parking of cars will not be allowed on Thorndon. quay between Lambton Station and Davis street; Featherston street from Lambton Station to Bunny street; Lambtor. quay, Willis street, Manners street, Courtenay placo between Taranaki street and Clyde quay, except on car park at Ford Building, Kent terrace, EUjce street between Kent terrace and Dufferin street, Dufferin street, Eugby street between Dufferin street and Adelaide road.

The streets through which the procession is to pass will be closed to traffic at 5 p.m., viz., Lambton quay, Willis street' Manners street, Courtonay place, Kent terrace, Elliee and Dufferin streets North-botind traffic from Adelaide foad is to proceed via Rugby and Tasman sheets. Southbound . traffic from Thorndon is to proceed via Waterloo 3™y °* Davis street, Moturoa street, and Pipitea street.
