EVERY ADULT A TASK

FRANCE AND NEXT CONFLICT

LONDON", 3rd March. The "Daily Telegraph's" Paris correspondent states that, following on M. Painleve's announcement that work on tho frontier defences would be started in July, comes nows of tho imminent introduction of a Bill into Parliament under which Prance will becomo virtually a nation in arms, all classes, of both sexes, having their allotted duties and tasks. It is argued that under future conditions of warfare tho whole population will bo liablo to be victims of hostilities, therefore they must sharo in the country's defence. It is understood that tho Bill will provide a niche for every adult, while every Ministry must include a Defence Department, covering its own sphere. Another Bill will follow, reorganising the army. Tho Government insists that these measures do not indicate loss of faith in disarmament.
