PUBLIC SERVICE HOLIDAYS
(To tto Editor.)
Sir,—l believe it is the intention to close the Government Offices from 10 a.m. on Monday and Tuesday during the visit of the" Duke and Duchess of York. Now, Sir, I am wondering if I can state the case of Civil servants' wives sufficiently clearly m my endeavour to have this proposal slightly altered. In the first place, a large number of the officers consist of young married men with young families, and, further, many of them reside in the remote suburbs. I am quite sure the wives are desirous of participating in the reception of our Eoyal guests, and also wish to have their children with them on such a memorable occasion. The functions commence' at an early hour on Monday morning, and their Royal Highnesses will be abroad shortly after 10 a.m. What chance is the wife in the distant suburb going to have of getting into town and obtaining a vantage point where she and her children may join in the welcome if she is to be deprived of the valued assistance of her husband' I am etc., CONCERNED.
