MAGISTRATE'S COURT

Police and summons cases in the Magistrate's Court to-day were dealt with by Mr. E. Page, S.M. ■ Charged with breaking and entering the house of Gertrude Helmling at 14, St. John street, and stealing three ladies' rings, a gold wristlet, watch, and £1 in money, Edward Rbssbell Ebert was remanded to appear next Wednesday. In asking for bail, Mr. J. F. B. Stevenson said that the accused was working and sold. A fine of within half an hour of his having taken them. Bail of £150 was allowed.

The theft of a sink worth 19s iOd; belonging to the Wellington .City Council Tramways Department, was admitted by Frederick Bartlett, a carpenter. Sub-In-spector Harvey said the sink had been taken from a yard at premises where the, accused wa sworking aud sold. A fine of £5, in default one month's imprisonment, was imposed. The Magistrate, ordered that the money be paid at the rate of £1 a week.

For offensive matter, Edward Dyson, a labourer, aged 49, was fined £1, in default three days' imprisonment.. He was fined. 10s for his second offence of ! i drunkenness. ■ ■

_ A fine of £2, in default seven days' imprisonment, was imposed on John Edward Byrne for procuring liquor while prohibited. A similar penalty was imposed on James Patterson, who was found on licensed premises after' hours.

Failure to close her shojp at the,proper time cost Mrs. E. Manchester, confectioner and tobacconist', of Karori, £2. One first offender, for drunkenness, was convicted and discharged.
