HUTT CLUB'S ANNUAL MEETING

The annual report of the Hutt Golf Club, presented at the annual meeting at Lower Hutt last week, states that the membership at the end of the year was as tcWlows (the previous year's figures "behi" shown m parentheses):—Ordinary members: 247 (241), men 169 (162), women 78 ((9). Total, 373. | The usual triangular programme of' home-and-home matches "between Wellington, Miramar, and the Hutt was played, resulting in the Hutt team being unbeaten, winning three games and drawing one (with Wellington). Other club matches played were with Itanui, Otaki, Masterton, and Greytown, of which the club won four and lost two. The Nathan Cup was won early in the season from Eanui, and has been successfully retained throughout the season, challenges being withstood against Miramar, Waiwetu, Otaki, Eanui, Masterton, and j Johnsonville.. j The results of the principal competi- : tions held were as follows:—Senior championships: J. L. Black; ladies, Mrs. Spiers. Junior championships: \V. H. Zander;' ladies, Miss Grady. The St. Andrew's Cross was won by H. A. Black. The Dawson Memorial Cup was won by W. H. Zander and Mrs. Murphy. The Wilford Cup Competition was won by H. A. and J. L. Black. An attempt has. been made in the direction of beautifying the course, and in the latter half of last year some 4000 Pinus. Insignis and Viminalis gums were planted around the full boundaries of the course. While a small percentage, as was to be expected, have died, the majority have taken well, and in a few years' time substantial shelter belts may be expected. Towards the end of last year the committee made arrangements for the purchase of a Fordson tractor, which has . assisted greatly in the work on the course. A new and larger Massey-Harris mower was also purchased to replace the old one, and the club has now an up-to-date and efficient plant. Arrangements have been made whereby the services of Mr. Lindsay Ross have been secured as professional to the club. The following officers were elected: — Club captain, Mr. M. Evans; treasurer, Mr. G. F. Judd- secretary, Mr. C. Hamerton; handicapper, Mr. R. C. Kirk; committee, Messrs. D. G. M Goodwin, E. R. Wells, J. L. Black, and A. M. Adams.
