An inquest coneernThg the "death of Harold Isaac Bertaud, aged 5 years, who died in the Wellington Hospital last Tuesday while undorgo.ng an operation for the clearing of the air passages following an. attack of diphtheria, was held before Mr. W. G.'Riddell, S.M., Coroner, in the Magistrate's Court to-day. Medical evidence was given that the condition of the child's air passages was such that an operation was absolutely necessary. Ether was administered quite satisfactorily, but within five minutes the boy ceased tj breathe, and artificial respiration and stimulants ,were applied without success. The. Coroner returned* a verdict in accordance with the medical evidence —that death was due to diphtheric toxaemia. The boy was a son of Mr. David Henry; Bertaud, of 86, The Parade, Island Bay. -
